The Power of Pausing Before We Speak

We live in an era where opinions are constantly shared, often without considering their consequences. The issue is not having opinions or the freedom to express them online. The real problem is speaking before listening and expressing our thoughts without considering how our words affect others.

The problem arises when we feel compelled to defend our ideas at all costs, even when doing so harms others. When that happens, conversation turns into confrontation, and discussion escalates into anger—exactly as the verse mentioned above describes.

We have seen the consequences of this unchecked anger: violence fueled by ideology, families divided over differing opinions, and relationships broken by words spoken without care.
